On display at the Egill Ólafsson Museum at Hnjótur is a unique collection of old objects from the Westfjords which offers a clear insight into daily life in centuries past. Also on display are many objects connected to the history of economic activity in the first half of the 20th century, not least fishing, including several boats. These objects provide a good insight into people’s struggle for existence and the resourcefulness it took to survive under harsh conditions.
The museum is open every day from 10:00 to 18:00. The museum is open only in summer from May24th to September 15th.
The museum may be opened on request at other hours by contacting the museum director, telephone 456 1569 and 456 1514.
