Klausturkaffi is a small and cosy café full of character and famous in the region for wild mushroom soup, made with hand-picked mushrooms from the surrounding Fljótsdalur valley. The café is situated in one of Iceland’s most famous houses, a mansion built by the author Gunnar Gunnarsson, now a centre of culture and history, 36 km from Egilsstadir town. East Iceland is renowned for its reindeer and this delicious meat can be found on Klausturkaffi’s menu, which highlights Icelandic cuisine, alongside lamb and goose dishes, homemade cakes and freshly baked bread. And in sommertime you can rely on the well known lunch and cake buffet and enjoy your stone bramble berry skyr cake on the terrasse. |
